Statement from Health in Menopause in response to Panorama documentary, ‘The Menopause Industry’.

Health in Menopause provides holistic, inclusive and personalised care for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause.

Dr Alice Duffy, Dr Sarah Ball and Dr Alison Macbeth each hold accreditation from the British Menopause Society (BMS) to deliver specialist menopause care. They adhere to all regulatory menopause guidelines and follow HRT prescribing guidelines from the BMS.

In the minority of cases, some women may benefit from a dose that differs from regulated regimes. In this scenario, the suggested HRT dose will be fully discussed with the patient and any risks and benefits will be made clear so she can be supported to make a fully informed decision about her HRT regime. All patients are monitored closely when they start HRT or have a change to their dose, and any adverse effects experienced by the patient will be responded to promptly once they are known.

If a patient comes to Health in Menopause already taking a higher-than-licensed dose, this will be thoroughly discussed with the individual to ensure she is making an informed decision. We will comprehensively and holistically explore ways to modify the HRT regime with the patient’s consent.

Health in Menopause support women who have a history of cancer with their menopause journey while following all regulatory guidelines and working within the HRT prescribing framework from the BMS for patients with a history of cancer. In such cases, we will endeavour to communicate with the individual’s cancer care team and make any recommendations around HRT regimes in light of patient history, taking into account the views of the patient and the cancer specialists. Dr Alison Macbeth is a breast speciality doctor who provides specialist menopause care at Health in Menopause to women who have had breast cancer or a high-risk family history of breast cancer, and also regularly consults with Dr Duffy and Dr Ball about women they are supporting who have had breast cancer.

Health in Menopause recognises that menopausal women are often vulnerable to misinformation in the media and to the wealth of misleading claims by many so-called ‘menopause’ products. We are here to provide a safe and non-judgmental space to listen to your experiences of peri/menopause and we offer a range of evidence backed options that aim to improve your quality of life, including lifestyle advice and non-hormonal treatments, as well as prescribing HRT in a safe and regulated way for those who wish to take it.
